Mildred "Joyce" Hiatt, age 82, of Moravia, passed away on April 23, 2016, under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice at Homestead Assisted Living in Albia.

Joyce was born on February 20, 1934, in Moravia, to Otha Orris and Eunice Etheny (Main) Hiatt. She grew up and graduated from Moravia High. Joyce worked for the Moravia School District for 19 years, before working as the deputy clerk in Centerville and later city clerk for Moravia both for many years.

Joyce was a member of the Methodist Church in Moravia. She was a very caring and giving person, who volunteered her time at the Monroe County Helping Hands and to help with the Moravia Fall Festival. Joyce enjoyed traveling, going on several trips around the country. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Joyce is survived by her nieces, Esther Bates, Nancy Morrow both of Albia and Patricia (Dan) Hudson of Camdenton, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otha and Eunice; 3 sisters, Velda, Lois and Phyllis; and 4 nephews, Chuck, Dick, Bill and Russ.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until time of services on Tuesday April 26, 2016, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 26, at 11:00 a.m. at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia with Pastor Cindy Finn officiating. Burial will follow services at Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
