Janice M. Teno, age 77, of Albia, passed away May 3, 2016, at the Mahaska Health Partnership Serenity House in Oskaloosa surrounded by her family.

Janice was born on March 8, 1939, in Russell to Earl and Zelma (Bowman) Chapman. She graduated from Albia High School with the class of 1957. On January 31, 1959, she was united in marriage to Donald Teno at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia. To this union 3 children were born, David, Teresa, and Christine.

Janice worked for GMAC in Denver, Colorado for a year before returning to Albia and working for Maloney's in the office. After working at Maloney's she took a job at the Albia Animal Clinic. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Mary's Altar and Rosary Society both of Albia. Janice was an excellent cook. She enjoyed puzzles, crossword puzzles, antiques and going antiquing. Her real joy in life was raising her children and spending time with her family and friends.

Janice is survived by her husband of 57 years, Donald Teno of Albia; her children, David Teno of Eddyville, Teresa (Warren) Choate of Angleton, Texas, and Christine (Gene) Bania of Elk Grove Village, Illinois; 2 grandchildren, Amber (Aaron) Langstraat and Nickolas Bania, and 1 great grandchild, Austin Langstraat. Janice is also survived by four sisters, Eleanor (Albert) Hackett, Judy (Jim) Hackett, Lorraine (Gary) Cooper all of Albia, and Carol (Don) McDaniel of Bremerton, Washington, as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Zelma; a sister, Evelyn Ramey.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 7, 2016, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia, with Father Michael E. Volkmer C.P.P.S. officiating. Burial will follow services at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Albia.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2016, at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Janice's family present from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A 4:00 p.m. rosary will be led by St. Mary's Altar and Rosary Society and a wake service will be held at 6:00 p.m.

An open memorial has been established to the family.
