Ruth Johnette Derby, age 84 of Albia, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at Monroe Care Center in Albia.

Ruth was born on October 30, 1930, in Eddyville, to John and Nellie (DeGeus) Scott. She attended school in Eddyville and graduated from Eddyville High School, Class of 1947. On July 9, 1950, she was married to William Chester Derby at the First Christian Church in Albia. They shared 49 years before Bill's passing on March 14, 2000.

Ruth was a kind and generous person. She began her career in bookkeeping at First Iowa State Bank in Albia where she worked for 29 and a half years for the bank, retiring as Vice President. Ruth was a member of the First Christian Church where she was very active. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Republican Women. Ruth enjoyed golfing, bowling, traveling, playing cards (especially Pinochle), and having Coffee Time. Her real joy in life was spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ruth is survived by her son, Charles (Cindy) Derby of Albia; 2 daughters, Connie (Philip) Dicks of Grundy Center, IA and Cindy (Bob) Fluegge of Albia, 13 grandchildren; Carla, Josh, Eli, Craig, Catherine, Carolyn, Matt, Ben, Tony, Dave, Sandy, Ruthe, and Faith, 16 great grandchildren; a sister, Lorna Lewis of Bella Vista, AR; brothers-in-law, Dick, Sam, and Jerry Derby. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; parents, John and Nellie; a grandson, John Dicks; and a sister, Mildred Belzer.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the First Christian Church in Albia, with Pastor Lynda Carlson officiating. Burial will follow services at the Derby Cemetery in Monroe County.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Friday, October 23, 2015 at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Ruth's family present from 5-8 Friday evening.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church in Albia.
