Richard Eugene Skinner, age 56, of Albia, passed away March 26, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Richard was born September 1, 1958 to Gene and Mary Agnes (Murphy) Skinner. He grew up and attended grade school in Melrose and graduated from the Albia High School, class of 1976. After school Richard moved to Des Moines, where he worked as a Deputy Sheriff for the Polk County Sherriff Department, for many years and later worked for HUB Enterprises as an insurance investigator.

Richard was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Melrose and later attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia. In his earlier years he enjoyed traveling and woodworking. Richard's true passion was spending time outdoors, when he was able to work as a farm hand drive the tractors and do the farm chores. His kindness was most seen as a loving brother and a loyal friend.

Richard is survived by a brother, Mark Skinner of Albia. He is also survived by several cousins and good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Mary Agnes; and grandparents, Jim and Ella Murphy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 28, 2015, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia, with Fr. Michael E. Volkmer, C.PP.S. officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Melrose.

Visitation will open at 9 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday, March 28, 2015, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia, with Richard's family present.

An open memorial has been established.
