Richard Ernest Selby, age 63, of Bussey, passed away July 8, 2015, at the Griffin Rehabilitation Center in Knoxville.

Richard was born May 21, 1952 in Albia, to Gene and Madge (Spurgin) Selby. He graduated from the Albia High School, Class of 1970. Richard served his country in the United States Navy, as an Air Traffic Controller on the U.S.S. Constellation. Richard married Sandy Marlin on February 21, 1970 to this union two children were born, DeAnne and Lisa Jane. They later divorced and he married Lisa Kendall on June 14, 1991.

He worked for Clow Valve in Oskaloosa before going to work for Brookwood Plumbing and heating and later for the Veterans Hospital in Knoxville, where he worked for 28 years before retiring. Richard was a Past member of the masonic Lodge, and the Lovilia Fire and Rescue. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing and riding his Harley Davidson. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye Fan and an animal lover especially his Terrier Bobby. Family was everything and his true joy in life was spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Lisa Selby of Bussey; his two daughters, DeAnne (James) Robinson of Petal, Mississippi, and Lisa Jane (Jason) Meyer of Fort Dodge; Six grandchildren, Regan, Sawyer, Emersyn, Izabella, Peyton and Lily. Richard is also survived by his siblings, Valerie (Rick) Small, Kirby (Pam) Selby, Brenda Selby and Tim (Mary Jo Grimes) Selby; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Madge and a niece Megan Selby.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 11, 2015 at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Vince Goemaat officiating. Burial will follow services at Liberty Cemetery in Bussey, with military rites provided by the American Legion, of Melrose, Albia and Lovilia.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2015 at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Richard's family present.

An open memorial has been established.
