Nellie Martina Quinn, age 100 of Albia, passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at the Monroe Care Center in Albia.
She was born August 5, 1915 in Stuart, Iowa to Martin and Maude (Minard) Quinn. She grew up and attended school in Stuart, Iowa and Graduated from Beautician school in Des Moines. Nellie was a beautician in Wellman, Iowa before she moved to Albia in 1943 where she worked for Cernich beauty Shop and later owned and operated Nellie's Beauty Shop. Nellie was a beautician for over forty years.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the St. Mary's Altar and Rosary Society both of Albia. Nellie volunteered her time at Oakwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and was on the Monroe County Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed crafts, crocheting, and crossword puzzles. Nellie was a great cook, and was known for her apple pies, cookies and popcorn balls.

Nellie is survived by her brother, Robert (Mary Lou) Quinn of Bettendorf, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Nellie is also survived by a Special family, Mike and Sue Shroyer and their family of Albia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Maude; 3 brothers, Leo, Jack and Joe Quinn; and a nephew, Jeffery Quinn.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 18, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia, with Father Michael E. Volkmer, C.PP.S. officiating. Burial will follow services at St. Mary's Cemetery in Albia.

Visitation will be held from 12 p.m.-8 p.m. Thursday, December 17, 2015 at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Nellie's family present from 4- 8:00 p.m. A 4:00 p.m. rosary will be led by St. Mary's Altar and Rosary society and a wake service will be held at 6:00 p.m.
A memorial has been established to the St. Mary's cemetery fund or to the Monroe Care Center in Albia.
