Mildred Emily Stokke, age 90, of Albia, passed away September 29, 2015, under the care of Hospice of Central Iowa at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia.

Mildred was born April 20, 1925, in Queens, New York to John and Helen (Skvarla) Surbeck. She graduated from Newtown High School in New York. She married Merlyn A. Stokke on October 31, 1943, in Queens, New York. To this union 3 children were born, Alan, Wayne and Jan.

Mildred was a homemaker for most of her life, and was a breast cancer survivor of 54 years. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia where she was very involved with bible studies and served on the Memorial Board. She also volunteered her time with the Monroe County Hospital Auxiliary. Mildred enjoyed quilting, reading, crossword puzzles, playing Scrabble and traveling with her husband.

Mildred is survived by her daughter, Jan (Joe) Starcevic of Albia; two sons, Alan (Patricia Donahue) Stokke of Higganum, CT and Wayne (Susan) Stokke of Blairsville, GA; four grandchildren, John Stokke, Dr. Jennifer Stokke Nyfennegger, Andrew Starcevic and Matthew Starcevic; and five great grandchildren, Nicholas, Michaela, Robert, Ryan and Andrew. Mildred is also survived by nephews, nieces, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Helen; her husband, Merlyn; a brother, Arnold Surbeck; and a sister-in-law, Ellie Galland.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia with Pastor Neil Montz officiating. Cremation will follow the service and inurnment will be held at a later date.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until time of services Saturday, October 3, 2015 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia, with Mildred's family present.

In lieu of flowers memorials have been established for Hospice of Central Iowa, Monroe County Hospital Foundation, or the Trinity United Methodist Church
