Madelyn was born June 22, 1928 to Albert and Florence (Koerner) Palmer in Avery, Iowa. She grew up and attended school in Avery and later attended school in Albia. Madelyn enjoyed singing Christmas carols with her church group; traveling to California, Branson, Las Vegas and all over the United States; watching baseball games down in St. Louis; and in her younger years she would ride the doodlebug train into Albia to watch the shows. She enjoyed going to casinos; laughing; and life in general.

She is survived by her 5 sons, Carl (Connie) Carter of Albia, Gary (Bonnie) Carter of Albia, Darrell (Faith) Carter of Avery, Michael Carter of Albia, and Steven "Wolf" (Donna) Carter of Melrose; 7 grandchildren, Bill (Kristine) Carter, Tina (Steve) Beary, Brian (Becca) Carter, Toni (Barry) Smith, Clint (Brooke) Carter, Scott (Nickie) Carter, and Todd (Amber) Carter; 17 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Carolyn Teno; a sister-in-law, Janet Palmer; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents, Albert and Florence Palmer; a great grandson, Zachary Beary; and 4 brothers, Virgil, Harold, Junior, and Earl Palmer; and 2 sisters, Evelyn Wells and Marilyn Gliem.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia. Burial will follow services at the Oak View Cemetery in Albia.
