Love Emblem

Lucille Josephine Johnston, age 89 of Albia, passed away Tuesday, February17, 2015, at the Ridgewood Nursing and Rehab Center in Ottumwa.

Lucille was born on July 9, 1925, to Annibale D. and Teresa (Scala) DeCet in Hocking, Iowa, a small coal mining camp just outside the town of Albia.

Lucille grew up on a farm and attended school across the street from where they lived. She graduated from Albia High School Class of 1943. She worked for Roy Brook Motor Company as a bookkeeper. That is where she met Roy. They got married on January 23, 1954, in Unionville, MO. They lived in Ottumwa at the Lazy J Ranch for 20 years, and then moved to Albia and started farming. Lucille worked at the Albia sale barn as a cook, then she worked at Western Auto as a bookkeeper. She also worked at the Albia Manor as a cook for several years. She was a member of the Ottumwa Baptist Temple and the Albia Baptist Temple when they moved to Albia.

Lucille was known for her servant heart, she was always there when you were in need of something, always offering a hand for anyone that needed help. Roy always called her the window farmer, always looking out the window to see what cow got out. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, and canning, but most of all she loved her grandkids. They were NUMBER 1 in her life. There was nothing she would not do for any of them.

Lucille is survived by her two children, Hugh (Mary) Johnston of Albia, Thressa (Alan) Branding of Raymond NE., 6 grandsons and 1 granddaughter, Alivia Branding, one great grandson, and two brothers, Gene DeCet of Houston, Texas and Larry DeCet of Tirble, MO.

She was preceded in death by her parents Annibale and Teresa; her husband, Roy; three brothers Alfred, Donnie, and John DeCet; and an Aunt Jessie DeCet and a cousin, Vera DeCet.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 23, 2015 at the Albia Baptist Temple with Pastor Brian Harris officiating, burial will follow services at Shaul Cemetery in Ottumwa.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 22, 2015 at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Lucille's family present from 5-8.
