Justin Andrew Smithberg, age 24, of Albia, passed away on Monday, February 15, 2016.

Justin was born December 26, 1991, in Albia, to John and Valerie (Jourdan) Smithberg. He graduated from Albia High School, Class of 2010, and attended Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids.

Justin was an avid sports fan and was active in high school sports, running cross-county, playing soccer and baseball, where he was a talented catcher. He was a loyal friend to many people and full of fun and laughter. He was known for his great sense of humor, intelligence, being genuine, and his ability to make his friends smile. Justin enjoyed hanging out with his friends, playing video games and spending time with his family. He was a dedicated employee and hard worker. Justin previously worked at Hy-Vee in several locations in Iowa and was currently self-employed.

Justin is survived by his parents, John and Valerie; a sister, Jessica Smithberg; a brother, Austin Smithberg; his grandparents, John and Joyce Smithberg and Richard and Janice Jourdan; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and good friends.

He was preceded in death by his great grandparents, Wayne and Grace Sample and several aunts and uncles.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 20, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia, with Father Michael E. Volkmer, C.PP.S. officiating. Burial will follow services at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Albia.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Friday, February 19, 2016 at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Justin's family present throughout the evening.

Justin was a wonderful son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend and will be greatly missed by all.

In lieu of flowers an open memorial has been established to the family.
