John H. Blomgren
John H. Blomgren, age 92 of Lovilia died Friday, March 21, 2008, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia.
John H. Blomgren was born on March 13, 1916, in Buxton, Iowa, also known as East Swede Town, to Emanuel and Matilda (Larson) Blomgren. The family moved to number 19 coal camp, and returned to Buxton where he worked in the mines until John began hauling coal in 1935.
He married Mary L. Stewart in May of 1941. They had two children, Dennis L. Blomgren and Dorothy Kay (Blomgren) Fuell. They began farming in 1942, and have lived on the same farm for sixty- seven years. John was inducted into the Monroe County Ag Hall of Fame in 2006.
John was a lifetime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. John had seen a lot of changes, like the move of the church from Buxton to Albia. He served on the church council. John loved to reminisce about his trucking days of hauling coal and sharing coal mining stories from the Buxton mines.
John is survived by his wife; Mary of Lovilia; his siblings, Joe Blomgren of East Moline, IL, Josephine Dunkin of Pella, IA; three grandchildren, Joe Blomgren of Lovilia, IA, Scott Blomgren of Lovilia, IA, and Michelle and husband Judson Yetley of Coralville, IA. John is also survived by five great grandchildren, Morgan Blomgren, Claire, Phoebe, Zoie, and Noah Yetley.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Emanuel and Matilda; his son Dennis, and his daughter Dorothy.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00A.M., Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Albia, with Pastor Tim Stoller. Burial will follow services at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lovilia.
Visitation will begin at 2:00 P.M., Monday, March 24th, at the Winfield Funeral Home in Albia. John's family will be present from 2 to 3:00 P.M. and also from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M., Monday evening.
An open Memorial has been established.
