John F. Malone, age 83, of Lovilia, passed away July 29, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

John was born February 18, 1932 to Gus and Alma (Summers) Malone at his parent's home in Monroe County. He attended country schools. After school, John joined the United States Army and served his country during the Korean War. On February 19, 1955 he married Alice Marie Bain at the Little Brown Church. To this union 3 children were born, Joan, Dennis, and Doug. They shared 55 years of marriage before Alice's passing on January 18, 2011.

John worked at Maytag in Newton for 37 years. He was a member of the American Legion of Albia. John loved flea markets, attending auctions, and refurbishing antiques to re-sell.

John is survived by his children, Joan Malone of Albia, Dennis (Theresa) Malone of West Des Moines, and Douglas (Linda) Malone of Albia; a sister Mary Lou (Bob) Quinn of Bettendorf; eight grandchildren; and one great grandson. John is also survived by 11 nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his wife Alice; parents, Gus and Alma; 4 brothers, Bob, Bill, Dick, and James; a sister, Betty, and a niece Patty Malone.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 1, 2015 at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia with Pastor Neil Montz, officiating. Burial with military rights provided by the American Legion of Albia, Lovilia, and Melrose will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lovilia.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2015 at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with John's family present from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
A memorial has been established to the Welcome Home Soldier Memorial.
