Francis Joseph Kosman, age 92, of Albia, passed away July 9, 2015, at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Francis was born March 20, 1923, at his home on the family farm in Monroe County to Harry and Mamie (Flattery) Kosman. He graduated from Georgetown High School class of 1941. Francis married Helen Margaret Johnson on February 22, 1949, in Albia. To this union seven children were born, Marlene, Peggy, Barb, Pat, John, Steve, and Mike. They shared 54 years of marriage prior to Helen's passing on March 9, 2003.

He farmed all of his life but also worked at Maloney's for a time before going to work at Maytag where he retired after 21 years. Francis was a member of St. Mary's Church in Albia. He loved watching the Iowa Hawkeyes basketball and football teams, wrestling, NASCAR, gardening and being outdoors.

He is survived by his six children, Marlene Kosman of West Des Moines, Peggy (John) Brothers of Columbia, MO, Barb Kosman of Des Moines, Pat (Lynda) Kosman of Albia, John (Janet) Kosman of Iconium, and Steve (Debbie) Kosman of Albia; a daughter-in-law Susan Kosman of Creston; eight grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a brother, Harold Kosman of Albia; and two sisters, Doris Craig of Ankeny and Marie Griffin of Albia. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Mamie; his wife, Helen; a son, Mike Kosman; a daughter in infancy; two grandchildren, James and Chris Kosman; a brother, Garry Kosman; and a sister, Rita Lee.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia with Father Mike E. Volkmer, C.PP.S. officiating. Burial will follow services at St. Mary's Cemetery in Albia.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Monday, July 13, 2015 at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Francis's family present throughout. A 4:00 p.m. rosary will be led by St. Mary's Altar and Rosary Society and a wake service will be held at 6:00 p.m.

A memorial has been established to St. Mary's Church in Albia.
