Everett Gardner, age 83 of Albia, passed away on April 13, 2015 under the care of Hospice of Central Iowa at Oakwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Albia.

Everett was born November 21, 1931 to Harold and Evelyn (Estlack) Gardner on the family farm in Bluff Creek Township. He attended country School before attending and graduating from Albia High School Class of 1949. On December 14, 1951, he married Ruth Ella Small at the home of Rev. Paul Beckman in Albia and shared over 63 years of marriage together. To this union 2 children were born, Steve and Norman.

Everett began farming full-time out of high school, developing a diversified operation consisting of corn, soybeans, oats, and alfalfa. He had farmed the same land his great-great grandfather settled on in 1886 and in 1999, Everett and his wife were named to the Monroe County Ag Hall of Fame. He dedicated many years to 4-H in Monroe County, helped organize the Monroe County Feeder Pig Association, and the Southern Iowa Tractor Puller Association. He was a member of the Masons, Astor Lodge #505 of Albia, Order of the Eastern Star and the Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia.

Everett is survived by his wife Ruth Ella Gardner of Albia; his son, Steve (Lori) Gardner of Urbandale; 3 grandchildren, Adam, Jesse and Josh Gardner; 6 great grandchildren; a sister, Irene Flattery of Albia. Everett is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Evelyn and a son Norman.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 17, 2015 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia, with Pastor Neil Montz officiating. Burial will follow services at Oak View Cemetery in Albia.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 16, 2015 at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Everett's family present from 5:00-8:00 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church Family Life Center.
