Erma May McGee, age 77, of Albia, formerly of Melrose, passed away August 23rd, 2015 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

Erma was born October 24th, 1937 to Harry and Alice (Barker) Thompson in Hiteman. She grew up and attended school in Hiteman and later graduated from the Albia High School, Class of 1955. On November 9th, 1957 Erma married John A. McGee at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Melrose. They shared 40 years of marriage before John's passing on October 16th, 1998.

Erma worked as a medical receptionist for Dr. Bates and Dr. Adler for many years. She was a lifelong member of the St. Patrick's Parish in Melrose, and in her later years, she attended St. Mary's Parish Albia. She was a founding member of the Green Hat Society. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Joe McGee of Des Moines, Steve McGee of West Des Moines, Mark McGee of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Bill McGee of Van Meter, and Debbie (Tom) Salato of Knoxville, grandchildren, Katelyn McGee of Des Moines, and Tony and Jordan Salato of Knoxville. Erma is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Erma was preceded in death by her husband, John A.; her parents, Harry and Alice; a brother, Don Barker; and a sister, June Kosmach.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 26th, 2015, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Melrose, with Father Jacob Greiner officiating. A luncheon will follow along with a private family burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Melrose.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 25th, 2015 at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Melrose with Erma's family present from 3-8 p.m. A rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m.

A memorial has been established to the Mount Calvary Cemetery Improvement Fund.
