Dolores Ann Mahan, age 86, of Albia, passed away July 1, 2015, at the Oakwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Albia.

Dolores was born July 27, 1928 to Jess Sr. and Julia Mae (Sereg) Simmons in Hamilton. She graduated from the Doniphan High School, in Doniphan, Missouri, Class of 1949, and later attended and graduated from Gamper Institute of Practical Nursing in Golden, CO., in 1952. She married Roy Earl Mahan in Columbia, Missouri.

Dolores was a distinguished member of the International Society of Poets. She loved to write poetry, and enjoyed being pen pals with friends all over the world. She also was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Albia, where she enjoyed church activities.

Dolores is survived by her three brothers, Dr. Charles R. (Dottie) Simmons, Dr. Michael (Darlene) Simmons, and Dr. Jess Jr. (Jean) Simmons; Dolores is also survived by, numerous cousins in the Albia area; and nieces and nephews in Missouri, California and Tennessee.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jess Sr. and Julia Mae Simmons; and her husband, Roy Mahan.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 9, 2015, at the Oak View Cemetery in Albia, with Pastor Jeff Shaw officiating. No visitation is planned.
