Carl Gray Stewart, age 87 of Albia, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2015, under the care of Hospice of Central Iowa, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia.

Carl was born September 1, 1927, to Amos Eugene Sr. and Lois (Gray) Stewart in rural Monroe County. He attended country school and later graduated from Albia High School. After school he married Mary Ann Saresky on August 28, 1952. They shared 59 years of marriage, before Mary's passing on December 7, 2012.

Carl worked at John Morell's for several years, before working at Chamberlains in Albia for 18 years and retiring from Rollscreen in Pella in 1993. He lived on the family farm, where he farmed all his life, until he was unable to in 2004, when he went to Oakwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Albia.

Carl was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Club, where he served as past president and was a member of the Farm Bureau member.

He is survived by his siblings, Minnie Ashmore of Gardner, KS, Lois Ann (Jim) Rossie of Conway, AR, Henry (Jane) Stewart of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Ray (Kay) Stewart of Albia;and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Amos Eugene Sr. and Lois; his wife, Mary; 2 brothers, Eugene and Roland Stewart and a sister, Phyllis Whitmarsh.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Father Michael E. Volkmer C.PP.S. officiating. Burial will follow services at the Highland Cemetery in Eddyville.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Monday, May 18, 2015 at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Carl's family present from 5:00-8:00 p.m.

A memorial has been established to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia or to Hospice of Central Iowa.
